This is Trevor Noah’s 2016 memoir in which he recounts his childhood in apartheid South Africa.
Trevor Noah was born in 1984 to a black Xhosa mother and a white father (Swiss expatriate). Interracial relationships were a crime in Apartheid South Africa, thus the title “Born A Crime.”
The book traces the author’s life, with each chapter beginning with a preface about the historical and social context behind the events in his life.
As a South African, I absolutely enjoyed this book! So did Skip—an American. We listened to it via audible, and I strongly recommend that you do the same because Trevor Noah does an outstanding job narrating. He is particularly good at doing the different South African accents. I wish he’d do a follow-up because I was thoroughly entertained!
